Everyone loves a parade! That was the context on Palm Sunday - you can read about the Triumphal entry in all four Gospels - when a crowd gathered and sang out in praise to Jesus, "Hosanna - Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!" And yet just days later a different crowd gathered and a different "shout" was heard - "Crucify! Crucify! Crucify!"
And that is the tension of Holy Week. From celebration to execution. From uncontrolled joy to unbelievable hatred and anger. My prayer for this week is simple: let's live in tension. Let's consider all that took place - even the painful and the ugly - as we move toward victory Sunday - Resurrection Sunday. May this week be one of worship and contemplation. Let's keep our eyes focused on Jesus!
